PORT ANGELES — Workers were trying to stabilize a rocky hillside on Highway 101 in Olympic National Park when rolling rocks became too much of a risk.
Park spokeswoman Rainey McKenna says no one was hurt but officials decided Wednesday to close the highway at the site along Crescent Lake about 15 miles west of Port Angeles.
Experts are analyzing the hillside to determine when the highway can reopen. Meanwhile traffic is detoured on Highways 112 and 113.
McKenna says the hillside stabilization work started at the beginning of the month. Recent heavy rain may have triggered the rockslide.
