SEATTLE — The Rat City Rollergirls and a motorcycle stunt team will be taking over the Alaskan Way Viaduct for half an hour Saturday before demolition begins on the Seattle elevated highway.
The roller derby team and the motorcycle stunt team called the Seattle Cossacks won a contest to spend 30 minutes on the viaduct.
The Washington Department of Transportation says they received nearly 600 creative entries. The Rat City Rollergirls will be speed skating and showing off their derby skills along several blocks of the viaduct. The Seattle Cossacks will build human pyramids and perform stunts on their vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles nearby.
The performances will take place around noon and are not really open to the public. Citizens are invited to walk along a different part of the viaduct starting at 9:30 a.m. and could catch a glimpse of the derby and motorcycle teams. Government officials will join the fun around 1 p.m.
