Meadowdale kids help animalsFive fifth-grade girls at Meadowdale Elementary School turned their love for animals and crafts into a fundraiser for PAWS, a shelter and rehabilitation center for pets and wildlife. The girls made bracelets and rings and then sold them, at an average price of $2, to classmates and teachers, raising over $81 for PAWS so far.

“I saw that my friends were making these cool rubber-band bracelets, and I said, ‘How about we sell them and raise money for a cause?’ We all love animals,” said Quinn Bennett, 11.

The initial donation went directly to sponsoring a husky named Bruin, making it more affordable for someone to adopt the dog. A different animal, hopefully served by PAWS’ wildlife center, will get the girls’ focus next, Quinn said.

“We’re starting to raise more money right now,” she said.
