SEATTLE — Mayor-elect Ed Murray announced Monday the hiring of former state senator Nick Harper of Everett as director of the Office of Intergovernmental Relations for the city of Seattle.
Harper resigned from office Nov. 9, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. The 34-year-old is married and the father of two young daughters.
“Unfortunately my work in Olympia takes me away from my family far too much,” he said when he resigned. “I have come to realize that my constituents and the people of our state would be better served by someone who can fully commit their time to a job that requires undivided dedication.”
Harper, an attorney, has worked with the Everett law firm of Adams &Duncan Inc. since leaving office.
He and Murray were close allies in the Senate. Harper served as deputy leader of the Democratic caucus until resigning. Murray who had been the Senate Democratic leader until he won the mayoral race in November.
Harper will earn $140,000 a year, according to a press release issued by Murray’s transition team.
