SEATTLE — The spouse of new Seattle Mayor Ed Murray sought advice from the city ethics director before Murray declared his candidacy.
Now that Murray is about to become mayor, ethics director Wayne Barnett is finalizing an opinion to help Murray and Michael Shiosaki avoid conflicts of interest.
Shiosaki has worked for the city for a dozen years and is director of planning and development for the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department.
The Seattle Times reported that most of the responsibility for avoiding conflicts will fall on the mayor to not make any decisions that affect Shiosaki’s compensation or promotion.
Barnett says the couple is free to talk about city business and parks issues as long as the city’s interests aren’t harmed.
