SEATTLE — Seattle police have adopted a new policy this week for dealing with crisis situations involving people who are mentally ill or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
It calls for a team of specially trained officers to take the lead with someone having a behavior crisis and try to de-escalate the situation when possible.
KUOW reports the policy is a response to a federal investigation that found Seattle police too often used excessive force.
