SEATTLE — The city of Seattle says about one-fifth of the homes and business — 75,000 addresses — in the city have opted out of phone book deliveries since the choice was offered a year ago.

The city said that’s 420,000 unwanted deliveries, saving 375 tons of paper.

The Seattle Public Utilities department expects another 25,000 homes and businesses to halt deliveries of phone books and yellow pages this year.

Residents can opt out online or with a phone call or postcard.
