50 years ago (1964)
Young Debra Dotchin now knew that elephants really like peanuts. The King Brothers 3-Ring Circus pulled into town during the night from Issaquah and set up at 12th Street and Rainier Avenue. Two shows were staged, one at 4 p.m. and one at 8 p.m., before the circus headed to Oak Harbor.
Outstanding YMCA athletes were honored recently at the annual Spring Awards Banquet. Ken Sunde and Diane Solem were congratulated by Everett Miller, general secretary of the Y, after they were selected outstanding athletes for the 1963-64 season.
25 years ago (1989)
Herald carriers for the month were Jamie Perkins, Nick Johnson, Erik Schumacher, Jamie Garza, Jason Carl, Robbie Eason, Erik Schlagonhauf, Josh O’Neil, Teresa Menzel, Bryant Hamman, Aaron Guimont, Chris Drake and Ben Wurtz. Those interested in being carriers were to call the Circulation Department.
It was planting time and several county nurseries had ads in the paper. Among them were Garden Pro Nursery in Marysville, Cascade Nursery north of Marysville, Del’s Nursery on old Highway 99, My Garden Nursery on Highway 9 and Sunnyside Nursery.
