50 years ago (1964)
Dennis and David Gilleland, sons of Mr. and Mrs. David Gilleland, 3830 Hoyt Ave., were preparing for YMCA day camp to begin next week by staying in a tent. Silver Lake was the base camp with stays at Wenberg, Gold Basin, Camano Island and Deception Pass.
Wold Hardware Co. at 1811 Hewitt Ave. advertised the Delta Homecraft 9-inch tilting arbor circular saw as the ideal gift for Father’s Day. It was the perfect saw to start the home workshop. Complete with motor, stand and extensions it was $203.60.
25 years ago (1989)
Boeing’s newest Everett-built jumbo jet hit another major milestone when a Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airlines, picked up the first 747-400 powered by Rolls-Royce engines. It became the eighth model delivered by Boeing this year.
Opening June 17 was the new General Trading Post with swap meet dealers in Gold Bar. It was located on seven acres 14 miles east of Monroe on U.S. 2. There was inside and outside selling with east and west traffic, local and tourist. An eight by 10 space was five dollars a day.
