50 years ago (1957)
The Everett School Board issued a call for bids on the construction of the new $1,270,197 junior high school. Architect William Arild Johnson told board members that a large number of bids were expected on all phases of construction. The new 32-classroom school, later named Evergreen Junior High, would be on a large tract on Beverly Lane.
David Bolin, 831 Grand Ave., was a member of the Branford College football squad. Branford was one of the 10 residential colleges at Yale in New Haven, Conn. The intercollege athletic plan at Yale provided competition for upperclassmen in 15 different sports.
25 years ago (1982)
Dorothy Doolittle Finlayson was caught up in the history of her birthplace, Index. Her grandparents, Amos and Persis Gunn, founded and named the mountain town. Her Uncle, Louis Scholl, was the first minister in the town church, and her aunt, Lena Gunn Scholl, was the community’s first teacher.
Close to 100 youngsters from Luther Child Center, Snohomish County Boys Club and Boy Scouts of America cheering the Seattle SuperSonics to their 12th straight victory were expected at tonight’s game in the King Dome thanks to a block of tickets donated by the Everett Branch of Peoples Bank. James Stark was the bank manager.
