50 years ago (1964)
David Kohler, son of Mrs. Grace Kohler, 205 Alverson Blvd., recently was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation from Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
Charlotte Elstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Elstrom, 5028 Elm Street, was looking forward to shampooing and combing Panda, part fox terrier and part beagle. A member of City Slickers 4-H Club, she was competing at the Snohomish County 4-H Dog Days at the Monroe fairgrounds.
25 years ago (1989)
Shawn Richards of Everett made use of the automatic teller machine at Security Pacific Bank’s branch at Evergreen Way and Casino Road. This way of getting cash in a hurry was really catching on and had become part of everyday banking. In some ways it had replaced the check.
The state was going to re-stripe the lanes on the Mukilteo Speedway making it easier for local traffic to navigate lines of waiting ferry commuters. When the job was done the outside northern lane would be eliminated and converted into a holding area, eliminating the shoulder as a ferry waiting area.
