50 years ago (1964)
Scholarship awards in the amount of $600 were granted to four children of Simpson Paper Co. employees. Notified of their selection this week were recipients Mary Ann Dumond, James W. Cunningham, Daniel A. Neff and Clifford E. Totey. A banquet to honor the winners was held this evening at Everett Golf Country Club.
Two major assignments were filled in the Arlington school system. Richard Johnson was named high school principal and DuWyane H. Doe head basketball coach. Johnson replaced John Danubio who became curriculum and guidance director. Doe succeeded George Vlastelica, who moved to California.
25 years ago (1989)
On the set of Phoenix Alternative High School’s theater project were Marc Lawyer, Jack Bethards, Carl Wolff, Shane Lawyer, Renee Lawless, David White and Martha Gann. Seventeen young people were involved in the Youth on Their Own Theater Project.
Veteran Silvana Fair judge Marietta Roth of Bryant studied an overnight bag sewn by Jenny Boettel before awarding the bag a ribbon. Roth had judged at fairs for more than 30 years. All in the Stillaguamish Valley community were hoping for “fair” weather this year.
