Joyce Bentz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil H. Bentz, Route 2, Snohomish, was awarded the Wall Street Journal Achievement Award. She was a graduating senior majoring in business administration at Walla Walla College.
Granite Falls High School students elected three juniors and two sophomores to Associated Student Body offices for next year. They were junior Bruce Campbell, president; sophomore Paul Craggs, vice president; sophomore Joan Younce, secretary-treasurer and business manager for the school annual; junior Mark Zerr, annual editor, and junior Carol Mackie, annual assistant business manager.
25 years ago (1989)
Lee Weese, Kory Conklin and Mac Cassel participated in a skit at a recent DARE graduation at Lowell Elementary. DARE was a program taught by police officers designed to help youth avoid drugs. Joy Lansdowne, principal, said this was the school’s first graduation.
Air Force Staff Sgt. Richard G. Leipfert, a 1979 graduate of Mariner High School, was named firefighter of the quarter. He was a fire protection supervisor with the 31st Civil Engineering Squadron at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida.
