50 years ago (1964)
Plans for proposed county building projects were revealed to a citizens committee this week. The old courthouse (Mission Building) would be refurbished and a new five-tower building would be erected on its north side. Smaller outdated buildings would be razed for parking. A new youth detention building would be built in the north end.
People in the Halls Lake exchange were now enjoying a nationwide direct dialing system. Robert Shane was the West Coast Telephone Company district manager in South County.
25 years ago (1989)
Richard Warburton made his living as a hotel cook in Snohomish, but repaired tower clocks part-time. He was currently working on the Snohomish County tower clock. His charge was to repair the bell so it could return to spilling its loud verse over downtown Everett.
Riana Luce had to remind her nephew Jeff Persons that they had to finish picking strawberries. The latter had stopped to enjoy the fruit of his labor. Merv Boyes, owner of Merv’s U-Pick in Monroe, said it was a good year for berries, but would’ve been better without the terrible rainstorm at the height of the season.
