50 years ago (1964)

Unique Gifts at 1810 Hewitt Ave. advertised Cox’s homemade candies, Ambassador cards, costume jewelry, Goldstone novelties, moccasins, casual shoes, party jokes, knick-knacks, plaques and ladies’ dresses.

Gordon Baird and his daughter, Marsha, won the two dinghy races held at Lake Stevens. Finishing behind the Bairds were Bill Siebolt and Hugh Minor, and John Hagen and Bill Hummel.

25 years ago (1989)

Lt. Art Iverson installed shelves in the new south precinct facilities in Mill Creek. Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies would have a lot more room to work now that they were moving equipment and belongings to 16000 Mill Creek Blvd.

Mill Creek homeowners were girding up for the twice-yearly Saturday garage sale. Security supervisor Wallace Tiffany said that it was always packed and that he’d had calls from as far away as Tacoma asking for the time and date. Thousands were expected to jam the winding residential streets looking for merchandise that has a reputation of being a cut above that found at most sales.
