50 years ago (1964)

Sister M. Michael Francis, principal of St. Mary Magdalen School, looked at science fair displays prepared by Lynn Eisenmann and Steve Collins. There were also science fairs going on at the other two Catholic schools in Everett, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Immaculate Conception.

Talking over plans for today’s Girl Scout Sunday with the Rev. John C. Baskett at Paine Field’s Air Force chapel, were Cindy Johnson of Everett, Joy Craig of Mukilteo and Mary Seek of Marysville. They were among approximately 500 Girl Scouts in Mowala Neighborhood (Snohomish County).

25 years ago (1989)

Marty Leese of Everett hauled in the sail of his “land surfer” in the parking lot of the 14th Street boat launch. He attached the sail to a long and white skateboard so he could get in a little sailboat practice on days when it was too calm to be on the water.

California seals basked in peace and sunshine at the south end of Jetty Island. The animals began arriving at their wintering grounds here in December and were usually gone by May. County fishermen reported problems with the seals raiding their salmon nets.
