50 years ago (1964)
After remodeling, the S.H. Kress store at 2822 Colby Ave. had a grand opening set for this weekend. The Hearth Luncheonette, which seated 36, was among the new innovations to be offered the public. Another sales floor in the basement was open. Henry Mathews, manager, pointed out that the store had been open during the three months of remodeling.
5 Star Furniture in the Culmback Building at 3015 Colby Ave. was quitting business. All merchandise was ordered sold roof to basement … warehouse …wall to wall. Prices were slashed, financing was available, all sales were final and because of the huge markdown losses a small charge was made for deliveries.
25 years ago (1989)
Greg Johanson, of Mukilteo, bowled 300-236-234 for a 770 series at Glacier Lanes. Johanson, a left-hander, bowled for the Willie Boys team, carried a 214 average and already had four rings and a few watches for his bowling.
Cascade High School’s team of Luke Friang, Kyle McMurtry, Don Littlejohn and Andre Morris won the 1,600-meter relay in a 1989 state-best time of 3:20.5 in the 64-school Shelton invitational track meet. Cascade’s Mike Tetreault placed third in the discus throw.
