The B&M Shopping Center on Evergreen Way, Everett’s major suburban shopping center, was noting its 10th birthday. The idea had come from Hans Solie, who also built the Everett Public Library, the Sears Roebuck Building, Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill, South Junior High School, Roosevelt School and many other buildings around the county. The shopping center was much larger today than it was in 1954.
Litterbug poster first place winners in the contest conducted by Cascade Mountain View Garden Club for kids in the neighborhood were Rob Boothby, seventh-graders and up; Joe Donnell, fourth- through sixth-graders, and Joel Kramer, first- through third-graders.

Ed Opitz had a two-run triple and Larry Green added a two-run double to break an 11-11 tie in the seventh inning and lead Darrington to a 15-12 Northwest B League victory over host Friday Harbor.
