50 years ago (1964)
David Blacker, Charles Tooley, Jackie Tuell and Sylvia Wilcox were among the Cascade High School thespians who were on stage tonight and next Friday and Saturday night at Cascade’s Little Theater playing in the school’s mystery satire, “In Case of Murder,” by Frank Wattron.
Paul Wagner, of Monroe, had sold the Monroe Bowling Lanes to Ralph Gibson ,of Monroe, who had been operating the lanes under a lease. Wagner was selling the business but leasing the lot and building to Gibson. Wagner built the lanes and opened in October 1957 with a Brunswick installation of alleys and automatic pinsetters.
25 years ago (1989)
Everett Community College was expanding its Nippon Business Institute program to three other community colleges. The school planned to bring Shoreline, Skagit and Whatcom into the fold, according to EvCC President Bob Drewel. Right now about 20 students were enrolled, but that was expected to grow.
Herald writers taking awards at the Challenge of Excellence Contest sponsored by the Washington Press Association were Mike Brennan, Dale Folkerts, Mark Harden, Jeanne Metzger, Rich Myhre, Kristi O’Harran, Dale Preboski, Sharon Salyer, Bob Wodnik and Diane Wright.
