50 years ago (1964)

Olive Fredriksen, first grade teacher at Mountlake Terrace’s Melody Hill Elementary, was among 20 teachers chosen nationwide to work at the New York World’s Fair child care center. She would leave this spring to begin her duties at the fair and return to her school post next year.

D.J. and Eleanor Owenby had taken over the Ranch House at the northern city limits of Marysville and renamed the restaurant Doc’s Ranch House. He was formerly the chef at Everett Yacht Club. Doc’s was open six days a week and featured prime rib and steaks.

25 years ago (1989)

Continuing programs this week included next Friday’s noon Lenten Luncheon Series program at the Everett YMCA. Mark Judy, administrator of General Hospital of Everett, was the guest speaker. Lunch was $5.

Chenin Perman-Marshall, 12, and Clint Kincaid, 8, tumbled around in the last remains of the week’s snowstorm. Most of the snow was expected to melt soon. The forecast called for increasing clouds today and a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. It was expected to be warmer with highs of 45 to 50 degrees.
