50 years ago (1963)
Carol Marie Beauchamp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al Beauchamp, celebrated her second birthday today. Her sisters and brother were Mary, Maria, Cathie and Al Jr. Grandparents were Mrs. and Mrs. L.R. Anderson and C.E. Nicholson, and great-grandparents were Mrs. Mary Gillian and Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Delamere.
New Year’s Eve celebrants would have an extra hour “out on the town” in Everett as the result of action by city commissioners this morning. Commissioners voted to extend open hours for city clubs, taverns and class H establishments to 3 a.m. New Year’s Day.
25 years ago (1988)
Four trumpeter swans had an unusual day when they flew to Detroit, eventually bound for Saginaw and Ontario. The birds were rehabilitated here by wildlife biologist Martha Jordan and her husband, Michael Kyte, at their rural Snohomish home and Sue Murphy, another bird rehabilitator who lived nearby.
Michael Brewer, of Edmonds, considered himself a lucky guy, but never luckier than Christmas morning when he found that he had won $5 million in the state lotto drawing. From the Everett office of the Lottery Commission, he said that it was a nice Christmas present, one that he’d never forget.
