50 years ago (1963)
Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Montgomery, 1223 Broadway, would celebrate their golden wedding Dec. 8 at the Degree of Honor Hall in Pinehurst. Gifts were to be omitted. The Montgomerys came to Everett in 1918 from White Plains, Mo. Mrs. Montgomery’s mother, who was still in Missouri, was unable to attend.
Several boys received awards at the November meeting of Cub Scout Pack 7 at Longfellow School. They were Philip Hastings, Loren Soland, David Dowd, Mike Greenleaf, Freddie Erickson, Tony Eddy, Dusty Jansen, Christopher Howell, Randy Davis, Robie Hogan and Richie Wehr.
25 years ago (1988)
The future of garbage in Washington state was the focus of a public hearing here tomorrow night. The meeting at Everett Community College was scheduled by a special committee of state legislators who had been studying solid waste problems and solutions, said state Rep. Art Sprenkle, of Monroe.
Herald writer Gary Nelson received an education writing award from the Washington State School Directors Association. Nelson won first place for an education series in the association’s annual statewide writing contest. He won in a different category last year.
