50 years ago (1963)
One of the women who year after year had helped the Everett Shut-In Club with its Christmas cookie project was Edith Charnley of 2003 Hoyt Ave. She appreciated what the gift meant to shut-ins as she was a former nurse. Anyone could get into the project and take home baked cookies to 2206 Colby Ave. There they would be packaged and distributed among shut-ins.
Ever-Lo Superette at S. Second Avenue and Main Street in Lowell, next door to Simpson Lee, was having a grand opening. There were free prizes, coffee, cake, ice cream and popcorn. All were invited to get acquainted with the store, which sold groceries, meats, produce and drugs. It was advertised as a “friendly place to shop.”
25 years ago (1988)
M. Fears &Co. of Everett was awarded the Washington State Tourism Association’s region advertising and marketing contract. The region covered five northwestern counties.
Erik Roraback, a graduate of Cascade High School and a senior at Pomona College of Claremont, Calif., was studying at Oxford University in England this fall. His parents were Steve and Terri Roraback of Everett.
