50 years ago (1963)
Flora McLaughlin, who was retiring from her post as chief dietitian at Everett General Hospital after 23 years, was honored at a tea held in the Jordan home. Her successor was registered dietician Agnes Bannister.
Captain Eugene H. Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hanson, Route 3 Snohomish, was one of a select group of Air Force scientific and engineering officers now studying at the guided missile range division of Pan American World Airways at Patrick AFB, Fla.
25 years ago (1988)
Allan May, who retired after more than 34 years with The Herald, received an unexpected honor at his retirement party in the newsroom. Some 45 years after his WWII service in the Marine Corps, he received his Good Conduct medal thanks to efforts by Jim Penn, Marine Corps league commander.
Ira Spring, of Edmonds, who had produced several books on Northwest hiking with his twin brother, Bob, continued to churn out new books. Spring wanted people to know how many good trails there were in the area. His main hiking partner was his wife, Patricia.
