Central Lutheran Church at Rockefeller and Everett avenues had an open house today for its new $180,000 Parish Education Building including classrooms, administrative offices and fellowship hall.
Saying goodbye to the Snohomish County Regional Library bookmobile serving residents of Mukilteo were Robert and Richard Reed. Under an active Friends of the Library Group, the old Mukilteo Post Office, 722 2nd St., was being remodeled to boast new paint, floor, shelves and furnishings. Originally scheduled for completion Jan. 1, 1964, the library might be ready sometime next month.
25 years ago (1988)
Dry conditions and heavy smoke hovering from forest fires elsewhere in the state prompted fire officials in Everett and Lake Stevens to either impose a burning ban or extend one already in effect. Everett Deputy Fire Marshall Bruce Hansen said a citywide ban was ordered; there was no reason to add to the smoke.
For the entire month the sapphire jewelry, September’s birthstone which was like the purest blue sky and represented sincerity, truth and love, was on sale at 30 percent off at McDonough’s. McDonough’s had stores downtown at 2810 Colby Ave., Mill Creek Plaza and Woodinville Plaza.
