50 years ago (1964)
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ashley, of Granite Falls, were proud parents of Everett’s first 1964 baby. As yet the girl’s only name was “Happy New Year.” Everett’s last baby of 1963 was Dana, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Johns, 1410 Grand Ave.
County rivers were still producing steelhead with several anglers having good catches on the North Fork of the Stilly and the Pilchuck. Bob’s Sporting Goods on North Broadway had the most catches recorded with 10-year-old Don Ringman Jr. taking top honors with two.
25 years ago (1989)
Rick McCowan and his son Zecharia trudged up a logging road just off the Mountain Loop Highway for another wild ride down on their “Snow Racer” sled. McCowan said they were fanatics about this and that the sleds could go up to 30 mph on a frozen night. He added that they couldn’t wait for the snow to come this year.
Exide, the world’s oldest and largest battery manufacturer, proudly announced that its Willard batteries were available at these county locations: Motor Service and Piston Service in Everett, Piston Service of Snohomish, and Edmonds Auto Parts.
