50 years ago (1963)
Everett Parks Superintendent John Hall said today that the five-year parks modernization and rehabilitation program launched last year was advancing at a good pace. The major purchase was the Walter E. Hall Recreation area on West Casino Road.
Tex Wadle looked on as City Paint Supervisor Bill Daily put up a No U Turn sign on Colby Avenue. The city was posting such signs from 19th to 41st streets to put a stop to a teenage practice of wheeling automobiles around and around busy intersections.
25 years ago (1988)
A Karen Reed article profiled two people who chose teaching as a second career and were attending a five-quarter program at Seattle Pacific University. Rob Leon, a former bank employee who lived in the Silver Lake area, wanted students to remember that they learned a lot from him. Noralee Peterson relished the idea of teaching the way children learned.
Bob and Donna Crouch, of Marysville, were the winner of a Snohomish County flag after entering a contest at The Herald’s booth at the Evergreen State Fair. Nearly 500 county artists participated in the flag design contest.
