50 years ago (1963)
Alvin B. Pettersen, pioneer resident of Everett, would be featured speaker at tomorrow’s noon meeting of Everett Kiwanis club in the Elks Home. Coming here in 1892, Pettersen had seen Everett develop from a small settlement to the state’s fourth largest city with a population of about 50,000. Allan Patchtet was program emcee.
Kathy Waltz, in her new Everett Seagull column, mentioned that the carefree days of summer were gone. She named students Teri Knudson, Leslie Mincks, Chris Schindler, Theresa Schindler, Donna Bruskrud, Anne McGhie, Joanie Ingram, Diane Weller, Doug Bells, Nadine Wells, Kenny Eubank, Janet Braaten and Dennis English.
25 years ago (1988)
Leon Loucks, of Everett, rolled a 12-game block of 2,751 pins to grab the first-day lead in the Northwest Professional Bowler Association’s $16,000 Invitational tournament at Atomic Lanes in Richland. He had a 10-pin leader over his competitor.
Strawberry fields forever? Big growth said no in Marysville. City Councilman Bill Roberts said that Maryville was moving from being a small strawberry festival town to a town where you could live and do all your shopping. The signs of progress were common with the new mall, fast food outlets and gas stations.
