50 years ago (1963)
A new double chair-lift was now under construction at Mount Pilchuck that would raise skiers to new heights for a dizzy run of 4,000 feet. The lift, which extended from the 3,100-foot level to 4,300 feet with a vertical rise of 1,217 feet, was being built by Pilchuck Park Lifts of Everett.
The Bachelors Four, South Junior High School quartet and the Sparteens Girls Singing Group would provide entertainment for the first meeting of the school’s PTA group in the school cafeteria. Members of the quartet were Randy Nelson, Steve Juntilla, Lex Conrad and Larry Villella.
25 years ago (1988)
The male athlete of the week was Brian Burke, a Granite Falls High School football player. The senior linebacker/running back had 14 tackles, including three sacks in his last game. He led his team with 76 tackles, including 8½ sacks in five games.
Kaeli McCall, 4, and Nanda McCormick, 3, were swinging to their hearts’ content at Edmonds City Park. Kaeli’s mother, Ellen, said the children just loved it there. Despite the early morning fog, sunny skies moved in and made it perfect swinging weather.
