50 years ago (1963)
Everett High School’s Future Teachers of America Club was to hear David McCourt of Everett Junior College discuss “The Positive Role of Education” at its upcoming meeting. McCourt had been an instructor in political science at EJC since 1960. Officers in the EHS class were Don Cecil, Chris Schindler, Betty Jacobson and Richard Herbert.
Another link with the past in South County was erased as a controlled fire and bulldozer destroyed Eisen Corner Garage on Highway 99 at 212th St. S.W. Sadly looking on was Carl Eisen, chief of Fire District One, who with his brother Frank, built the structure in the 1920s.
25 years ago (1988)
Four years ago some Weyerhaeuser officials wondered aloud if the pulp mill here would survive more than a couple of more years. Two weeks ago, on its 35th year of operation, the mill’s 254 employees enjoyed a catered party. Gerald Willins, the mill’s first supervisor, believed it would last to the turn of the century.
Stanwood High School hosted a cheerleader reunion during its homecoming game last Friday. Among the attendees were Bertha (Langland) Stendera, who attended the old Lincoln High School, and Mary Jane (Floe) Hendry, of Stanwood High.
