50 years ago (1963)
Grace Timmer, publications chair for the Snohomish County League of Women Voters, presented a copy of the league’s newly prepared booklet, “Facts About Your Property Taxes,” to county assessor Carrol Barlow.
Everett city commissioners approved a permissive-use grant to the East Crest Hills Community Club to allow the club-sponsored Boy Scout troop to use the city’s Woods Creek watershed area near Lowell. The Scouts would hold supervised camp-outs in the abandoned watershed.
25 years ago (1988)
Sam Williams, 6, rounded third base and headed for home on his bicycle at the Olympic Boulevard baseball diamond in Everett. His companion and grandfather, Tom Williams, said he’d waiting for the lad’s battery to run down for 30 minutes so they could go home. He added that his grandson really thought he was going fast.
Four years of construction at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds was nearing completion, just in time for the opening of the annual 10-day county fair this weekend. The $6 million capital improvement program had transformed the fairgrounds into an expanded, drained, paved, painted and remodeled facility.
