50 years ago (1963)
Appointment of Everett attorney Stuart French to the Snohomish County Justice Court judgeship in Everett was announced today by county commissioners. French would replace Phillip Sheridan, who had resigned the post to assume the fourth judgeship in the Snohomish County Superior Court. A Gonzaga University Law School graduate, French was a deputy county prosecutor, doing both criminal and civil work.
Three girls graduating soon from Everett schools were named winners of the first-year junior college scholarships awarded by West Coast Telephone Company’s employee activities association, Telemac. They were Janet Hatcher and Kathleen Holmes at Everett High and Carol Kooistra at Cascade.
25 years ago (1988)
Two years of detective work by a North Dakota plumber, with some help from a local veterans service officer, linked the Congressional Medal of Honor to the occupant of an unmarked grave at Evergreen Cemetery. Now Thomas Sletteland, a Spanish-American War hero, had a headstone.
The Cascade Bruins were meeting the Thomas Jefferson Raiders for the Class AAA soccer championship tonight at Seattle Memorial Stadium. Cascade was the defending state champion while Jefferson was a four-time champ.
