50 years ago (1963)
The Everett Clinic opened its facility at 39th St. and Colby Ave. Moving with the clinic from the Central Building downtown was Niemeyer’s Pharmacy, owned and operated by Morrie Jones.
Seventh grader Glen Anderson won the annual South Junior High School spelling contest. Debbie Campbell, an eighth grader, placed second and ninth grader Jim Avery came in third. Judges were Helen Woody, Katharine Hamann and Jack Falkner.
25 years ago (1988)
City planner Dennis Derickson, speaking at a breakfast meeting of the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, said that with much of south Snohomish County saturated in population, Everett was poised to secure its role as the county’s epicenter and political hub. He added that given the city’s history, it could be great.
Christy Barrows, Becky Kiele and Christine Johnson did a lively step practicing on the Snohomish Junior High School tennis courts. Coach Lori O’Neill put the three and other members of the Midnight Star Drill Team of Snohomish through their paces in anticipation of a drill team competition in Seattle.
