50 years ago (1964)
Spectators looked on with sadness this morning as the destruction of Jefferson School began. The venerable school building looked much the same as when it was completed in 1894. The first part to go down was the bell tower.
“Casey” Jones, industrial-arts teacher at Everett High School and for the Everett Junior College evening program, gave tips to students on running the surface planer. There were still openings in the EJC evening class where students could get instruction in the use of power tools and shop safety.
25 years ago (1989)
Rhonda Rae Clayton of Everett had been accepted for membership in the United States Collegiate Wind Band, which was to make a three-week tour of Europe and England in July. She attended Snohomish High School.
Two teachers from the Edmonds School District were invited to attend the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect George Bush in Washington, D.C. Margie Norden, a fifth-grade teacher at Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Noreen Thomas, a second- and third-grade teacher at Chase Lake Elementary, were among five state teachers going to the inauguration.
