50 years ago (1964)
Hausmann’s Inc. announced the construction of a new and modern meat processing plant at 8407 Broadway. It would replace the present plant at Hewitt Ave. and Broadway which was giving way for the new Denny’s Restaurant. The new building, which would be modern in every way, was expected to be completed about July 1.
The Stillaguamish River, arching ever closer to the Mountain Loop Highway near Robe, was to soon get its comeuppance. Approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for emergency repair was granted and work was expected to get under way next week to relocate the river channel.
25 years ago (1989)
A new car show was taking place at Marysville Towne Center mall. Participating dealerships were Everett Mazda, Pignataro Nissan, Winner Lincoln/Mercury, Roy Robinson Chevrolet, Smokey Point Pontiac/Olds/Buick/GMC, Mark Sidley Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge, Bayside Porsche/Audi/Volkswagen and Olympic Ford.
Tracy Phillips, night custodian and basketball coach for the school team at Cedar Way Elementary School in Mountlake Terrace, had arranged to have Seattle Supersonic star Xavier McDaniel attend the annual student faculty-student basketball game. The X-Man would sign autographs in the school gym.
