50 years ago (1964)
William Carboneau, U.S. Army Reserve, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Carboneau, 4010 High St., was an honor graduate from the Army Radio School at Fort Banning, Ga., in July.
A gladiolus won first place in the flower division at the Snohomish County 4-H Fair last weekend. It was grown by Judy strand, Cloverleaf Beef and Dairy 4-H Club, Route 5 in Arlington, of which her mother Velma Strand was leader. Lela Reese, Route 1 in Stanwood, was lower division chairwoman and judge.
25 years ago (1989)
They were used to early customers coming in for morning coffee but the Hot Biscuit Café in Clearview got one they didn’t expect yesterday morning at 5:30 a.m. A driverless 18-wheeler loaded with lumber crashed into the north wall of the smoking section. Cook Debbie Weise said all she could smell was gas.
Yet another sunny afternoon prompted Sybil Christiansen to take her horse out for some exercise through the Stanwood farm country along Highway 530. Part of the fun was tying the horse off in Silvana and going for a swim in the Stillaguamish River.
