EVERETT — The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office received a national award Tuesday for its efforts to reduce line-of-duty crashes involving deputies.
Sheriff Ty Trenary accepted a Governors Highway Safety Association award in Kentucky for “notable achievements in the field of highway safety” over the past year.
Two years ago Snohomish County deputies had 11 on-duty collisions that caused serious injuries. Since then the sheriff’s office has adopted the tenets of a program called Below 100 that aims to reduce crashes in the line of duty. The sheriff’s office also installed monitoring systems in each patrol car to keep tabs on deputies’ driving behavior.
Crashes and gun violence are the leading causes of death for law enforcement officers in the United States.
