The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is experimenting with interactive crime-mapping.
You can see what they’re doing here: www.crimemapping.com/map/wa/snohomishcounty.
You select criteria for what you’d like to see, and the map fills with neat color-coded icons.
The idea is to let people in the community see what happens in their neighborhoods, Sheriff John Lovick said in a news release.
People also can sign up for e-mail updates, and some mobile apps are available.
This particular site offers 90 days of data, generally available within 24 hours of the initial crime, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
Data is available for all areas served by sheriff’s deputies, including unincorporated Snohomish County and Gold Bar, Darrington, Snohomish, Stanwood, Sultan and Index.
