Sheriff’s spokesman: Shot killed suicidal man

SPRINGDALE — An autopsy has determined that a suicidal man who called Stevens County sheriff’s dispatchers late Friday night died from a single gunshot wound.

Spokane County sheriff’s Deputy Craig Chamberlin said that autopsy was performed Monday by the Spokane County medical examiner. The dead man has not yet been identified.

Chamberlin said two deputies responded to an area north of Springdale and contacted the man. Then, in Chamberlin’s words, “Ultimately deputies fired one round, killing the suspect.”

Chamberlin said investigators will interview the two deputies. Evidence has been sent to the state crime lab.

The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team is investigating the shooting at the request of the Stevens County sheriff’s office.
