Kids can now be signed up for the fifth annual Casino Road Futbol Academy run by the Everett Police Department in cooperation with the Mukilteo and Everett school districts.
The academy runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily June 24-28 at Walter E. Hall Park in south Everett and is capped at the first 500 boys and girls, ages 7-14.
It’s a weeklong soccer camp where more than 2,500 area youth have learned soccer and life skills from coaches and volunteers. While playing soccer draws youths to the camp, the underlying focus is educating participants on what it takes to be a good citizen in the community.
The Casino Road Futbol Academy was started by Everett Police Department Sgt. Manny Garcia.
He believes participation in sporting programs with strong associations to community leaders keep youth focused on positives and steers them away from problems.
Enrollment is open now through the South Everett Boys &Girls Club, 525 W. Casino Road, Everett, WA 98204. Registration is $20 per participant and includes breakfast and lunch for the week, a jersey and soccer ball.
