Snohomish man a touch short in Jimmy Fallon contest

He made it to the final four.

Jeff Wing, salesman at Bickford Ford in Snohomish, was among the last four contenders in a zany contest to sell ”Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon a new Ford truck.

The 10 contestants had to keep at least one hand on the 2015 F-150 King Ranch truck that was parked on an aircraft carrier deck in New York City.

Fallon wanted to buy a F-150 truck, so he came up with a “Fingers on a 4X4” gig to get the Ford-toughest sales consultant. Ten top sellers were chosen from dealerships nationwide.

Winner was Pete Porzio of Frankfort, Ill., who outlasted the others with a time of 38 hours and 52 minutes.

Wing made it about 36 hours before getting the boot around 5 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday.

He was all psyched to win, said his wife Julie Banta. “He was in the zone and not tired. He was feeling a little bit cold. He was putting on his thicker gloves and accidentally took both hands off the truck.”

The rules required one hand be place on the truck at all times, except during short breaks. The action was streamed live.

“He drank no coffee and he passed up the wine at lunch,” Banta said. “All the tweets from family and friends in Western Washington, that is what kept him going.”

After he was out, Wing tried to get some sleep. That didn’t last long. “His phone kept going off,” Banta said. “He had about 140 missed texts and about 60 missed calls.”

She said Wing had a great time being on the show and loved meeting Fallon.

“He said he was looking forward to getting home and getting back on the lot,” she said.
