Arlington: Student appointed to serve on parks board

Arlington High School junior Caroline Rensel has been appointed to the youth position on the city Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission.

An actress, singer and pianist, she also enjoys hiking and bicycling.

“She’s a real go-getter,” city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. “She likes outdoor activities and she also brings her arts background to the commission.”

Lakewood: High school play continues this week

Lakewood High School presents Agatha Christie’s 1950s murder mystery “The Mousetrap” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the school theater, 17023 11th Ave. NE.

Tickets are $7 or $5 with a student body card.

Marysville: First 200 can swim for free Friday

The Marysville Healthy Communities Project and Marysville School District invite the public to attend a free swim on Friday.

The event is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School pool, 5611 108th St. NE. Swimming is free for the first 200 who attend.

About 200 people attended a free swim last month and another is scheduled for Dec. 18. The series is part of the Marysville Healthy Communities Project, a collaboration by the Snohomish Health District, the city of Marysville and the Marysville School District to reduce obesity and encourage healthier lifestyles.

Those who attend the free swims are asked to donate a nutritious canned food item to the Marysville Community Food Bank.

Oso: Community potluck scheduled at old school

A community potluck dinner for Oso community residents is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Old Oso School on Highway 530.

A craft fair is scheduled same day at the school, beginning at 9 a.m.

Stanwood: City Council sets budget workshop

Stanwood City Council plans to talk about the city’s proposed $14 million budget for 2010 at a workshop meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Stanwood City Hall, 10220 270th St. NW.

Discussion tonight on future of Kayak Point Park

The public is invited to share improvement ideas for Kayak Point Park with the Snohomish County parks staff at 6:30 tonight.

The meeting is at the Lake Goodwin Community Club, 17323 42nd Ave. NW, Stanwood. Officials want ideas about how the popular county park can better serve the public.
