OLYMPIA — Special elections are underway in Washington for more than half the voters in the state who are mostly deciding school levy and bond issues.
The secretary of state’s office says 270 of 283 measures are levies or bonds in 220 school districts. That almost triples last year’s 100 measures in 84 districts.
Elections are being held in 36 counties with about 59 percent of the registered voters in the state. The only counties not having an election are Clallam, Ferry and Garfield. Last year’s February election involved 31 percent of state voters.
Voters have until 8 p.m. Feb. 11 to have their ballots postmarked or deposited in drop boxes.
