Suspected drug dealer held in Everett shooting

EVERETT — A suspected drug dealer who calls himself “G” was in the Snohomish County Jail on Monday after he allegedly was found with heroin, meth and other drugs following a shooting Saturday.

Gregory Paul Carter, 36, who is known as “G” among associates, was being held for investigation of first-degree assault and multiple counts of possessing drugs.

He allegedly shot an Everett man, 51, in the right knee and lower back during a dispute Saturday night in an apartment in the 3200 block of 18th Street.

The man reportedly was arguing with Carter. A witness said the man at one point grabbed a butcher knife, stuck it in the rear waist band of his sweatpants, and confronted Carter in a hallway, saying he wasn’t afraid to die.

At least three gunshots rang out.

When police arrived, the wounded man said he’d been shot by “G,” and that he’d “stood up to the wrong guy,” according to police reports. He was taken to a Seattle hospital for treatment.

Police found Carter seated in a lawn chair in a fenced back yard behind the apartments. He initially didn’t respond to officers’ commands, but when he stood up, officers spotted suspected drugs. The items tested positive for heroin, meth, cocaine and prescription pain killers. Along with those items was a fabric case with the letter “G” on it. It contained a digital scale and multiple small baggies imprinted with the number “420.” That’s a popular reference to marijuana.

In Carter’s jacket, they found a handwritten letter.

“The letter was addressed to ‘G,’” according to police reports.
