TACOMA — Two teenage Tacoma brothers pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Monday in the slaying of a 15-year-old and were sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
The Pierce County prosecutor’s office said Luis Arroyo, 17, was sentenced to more than 26 years and Cristobal Arroyo, 15, who was prosecuted as an adult, was sentenced to 24 years.
Prosecutors said the two killed Hector Hernandez-Valdez on June 1, 2012, in a fight at their home to take his money and marijuana. The autopsy showed he had been stabbed or cut more than 34 times and had a skull fracture, as if he had been struck with a baseball bat or hammer.
The body was discovered by the boy’s mother who reported it to police. Officers found it in a recycling bin.
