The Mountlake Terrace Police Department recently promoted an officer to sergeant and retired the officer’s police dog.
New Sgt. Scott King was sworn in during the Jan. 7 City Council meeting, Police Chief Greg Wilson said. King’s drug-detection dog, Hunter, was honored for his six years on the force.
King has worked for the department for a decade, including as an active sergeant before the promotion.
He also has worked as a training officer, bicycle officer and SWAT team member.
He was the city’s 2012 Commissioned Officer of the Year.
“Sgt. King is an excellent addition to our leadership team,” Wilson said.
Police leaders chose to retire Hunter rather than move him to a new handler, Wilson said.
“The transition would have been difficult,” he said.
As a police dog, Hunter helped with thousands of operations and in the seizures of hundreds of thousands of dollars in narcotics around the region.
