SMOKEY POINT— A Washington State Patrol trooper received minor back and neck injuries when a car he stopped hit his patrol car from behind Saturday morning.
The trooper stopped a 49-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord northbound I-5 by Smokey Point.
She pulled to the right shoulder, with the trooper parking in front of her.
The woman, from Stanwood, was having mechanical issues with her car and was unable to stop, Trooper Mark Francis said.
She hit the trooper’s car between 10 and 15 mph, causing $1,000 in damage.
The trooper was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center’s Colby campus as a precaution, Francis said.
It was unclear what the mechanical issue was or the original reason the trooper stopped the woman.
The incident is under investigation with charges pending, Francis said.
