SITKA, Alaska — It’s taking longer to get a driver’s license in Sitka these days.
The Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles says the only employee in Sitka who could administer road tests left the job earlier this month and no one else is qualified to give them.
Linda Lomas, who oversees the Sitka office from Anchorage, says it will take one to two months to train a replacement. She says she plans to be in Sitka for three days starting Sept. 10 and will personally administer driving tests to people who have signed up.
Road exams normally are administered once per week in Sitka.
Lomax tells the Sitka Daily Sentinel that she also will conduct interviews for the office vacancy.
