WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College has been named one of 10 finalists for a prestigious $1 million prize given to one community college each year.
The Aspen Prize will be awarded in March in Washington, D.C., along with up to four other awards. It recognizes college completion rates, minority and low-income student success and employment after college.
The Aspen Institute says Walla Walla Community College stands out by staying on top of economic trends and creating programs that prepare students for tomorrow’s jobs.
The college has also focused on keeping students in school. Walla Walla has a 54 percent graduation and transfer rate, well above the national community college rate of 40 percent.
