Whatcom County man arrested after chase near Coupeville

COUPEVILLE — A pursuit near Coupeville on Tuesday night ended in the arrest of a man wanted by police in multiple counties.

The commotion started about 10:30 p.m. Island County sheriff’s deputies were asked to help find a black Ford F-150 that had been stolen from Skagit County. They were told the driver could have firearms and was wanted for questioning in a suspicious death in Whatcom County, said Kelly Mauck, the Island County undersheriff.

The driver, Joshua Adams, 41, of Whatcom County, reportedly left his car at a Skagit County gas station and stole the Ford.

An Island County deputy found the truck southbound on Highway 20 near Coupeville, Mauck said.

After a half-hour chase, the truck was stopped near the intersection of Maxwelton Road and Highway 525. Washington State Patrol troopers and Langley police assisted.

Adams was booked into the Island County Jail for investigation of possessing a stolen car, possessing a stolen firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A court hearing was planned for Wednesday.

According to a story in The Bellingham Herald on Wednesday, the Whatcom County case involves the suspected homicide of a 60-year-old man. Officials there have not released information about Adams’ possible connection to the case.
